2022-23 School Budget Vote Results

Byron-Bergen Central School District residents voted on Tuesday, May 17 to pass the 2022-2023 budget and to elect three members to the Board of Education.

Congratulations to Kim Carlson (292 votes) , Heidi Ball (284 votes) , and Jeff Cook (287 votes) being elected to the BOE for a 3 year term beginning July 1st.

Absentee voting
District residents can request an absentee ballot application by contacting the District Clerk , Rachel Stevens at (585) 494-1220 ex. 2529 or by emailing [email protected] . Any resident concerned with COVID-19 can choose "fear of COVID" as a legal reason on their absentee ballot application. Once the absentee ballot application is completed, returned and verified, the official ballot will be mailed to the District resident. All completed official absentee ballots can be returned via US Mail or dropped off at the District Office between 8:00 a.m. and 3 p.m. All official absentee ballots must be received in the District Office by 5 p.m. on May 17, 2022 to be included in the count.

The seven-member Byron-Bergen Board of Education will have three open seats on the May 17 ballot. Voters will select three board members to serve three-year terms. The following candidates will be on the May 17 ballot in this order:

BOE Adopts Proposed 2022-23 Budget

Byron-Bergen CSD Board of Education adopts $25.5M Budget Proposal for 2022-23 

At its regular meeting on April 7, the Byron-Bergen Central School District Board of Education adopted a $25,524,093 budget proposal for the 2022-23 school year. This is a 2.13 percent increase from last year’s budget, which, if approved by voters, will result in an estimated 1.75 percent tax rate increase. 

The proposed property tax levy increase is 1.75 percent, which is below the state-imposed property tax levy cap of 2.31 percent.

Voters will select three board members to serve three-year terms. The terms of Yvonne Ace-Wagner, Kimberly Carlson, and Jennifer VanValkenburg will expire June 30. The candidates are:

A Meet the Candidates Night will be held Tuesday, May 10 at 6 p.m. in the Byron-Bergen Jr./Sr. High School auditorium.

To vote, one must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years of age and a Byron-Bergen Central School District resident for at least 30 days prior to vote.
