Summer Student Leadership Retreat

Principal Pat McGee and Assistant Principal Scott Bradley hosted two days of student leadership workshops for junior and senior high school students in the High School Professional Development room on August 6 and 7, 2018. Teachers and counselors nominated students for demonstrating leadership qualities, independent thinking, and an active investment in school culture.

Throughout the year, Mr. McGee and Mr. Bradley host monthly workshops engaging a broad spectrum of students. The workshops provide an environment for students to communicate ideas and continue to development leadership skills. The workshop also acts as a focus group for Mr. McGee and Mr. Bradley to listen to students. This week’s meetings focused on gathering feedback about students’ favorite things at school and what opportunities they would like to have available.

“We want to hear what we can do better,” said Mr. McGee. “It’s not my school. It’s not the teachers’ school. It’s their school and I want them to have a great overall experience.”

When asked why she decided to participate, 9th grader Ella Vanvalkenburg simply stated, “I want to make the school better.”
