Fourth grade students celebrate Haudenosaunee culture

On Tuesday, November 12, the fourth grade students learned about Haudenosaunee culture during four special presentations. A big niá:wen (thank you) to guest visitors Michelle and Siomara Caballero, Richard Hamell, Rick Merritt, and Laurence Tallman for sharing Haudenosaunee culture with our fourth grade students. The event reinforces their ongoing studies of Native American culture and the community ties to the Haudenosaunee people.

Michelle Caballero was joined by her daughter, Siomara, to share the history of corn husk dolls and help each student make one of their own. Richard Hamell, a docent at Gonandagan Historic Site, shared his knowledge and collection of wampum. Rick Merritt shared his knowledge of and talent for Native American story-telling. Laurence Tallman shared his extensive knowledge of Native American song and dance.
