A message from Superintendent Edwards
Dear Byron-Bergen students and families,
I hope this message finds everyone well and enjoying summer. I’m sure many of you heard Wednesday’s announcement from Governor Cuomo regarding schools reopening. On Monday, July 13th, the New York State Board of Regents will provide schools with reopening guidelines. Schools will then have until July 31st to submit reopening plans outlining how they will meet the guidelines and, in the first week of August, the Governor will announce if and how schools will reopen this fall.
I cannot answer many questions you may have regarding classroom size, social distancing, air filtration, or other safety precautions as we do not yet have the state guidelines. However, Byron-Bergen has been proactive in ordering the appropriate PPE in anticipation of reopening school. Regardless of state guidelines, the safety of our students and staff are, and always have been, our top priority.
Many families have valid concerns regarding returning to school or not returning to school. I just want to assure families that I see you, I hear your concerns, and I share them. The District will be better situated to address your concerns after receiving the state guidelines, but we will work diligently to provide the best experience we can for our students to protect the health, safety, and well-being of all involved.
I will keep you updated as things progress but, in the meantime, stay safe and feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or would like to discuss this further.
Sincerely,
Mickey Edwards
Byron-Bergen Central School District Superintendent
