Byron-Bergen second grade students were invited to participate in an Arbor Day poster design contest in partnership with Genesee County Soil Conservation. The purpose of the contest was to highlight the importance of trees and pollinators, especially bees.
“Arbor Day is a special day to think about taking care of the Earth, trees and pollinators,” said Elementary Math Intervention Specialist Lara Ezard.
The winning poster was announced on April 25th by special guests Laura Bestehorn and Jared Elliott from Genesee County Soil Conservation. The contest winner was McKenzie Holota. When asked what she thought about winning the contest she replied, "I am so happy!"
McKenzie’s poster will be on display at the Genesee County Fair and will be highlighted in the GCW&C newsletter. Each second-grade student received a sapling to plant at home.
