On Thursday, May 11, 2023, acclaimed children’s author and illustrator Kim Norman visited Byron-Bergen Elementary School to discuss her creative process with the students. Her presentation included a reading from one of her books with audience participation as well as insight as to where she gets ideas for characters, plots, and interesting word choices.

“I always hope that it’s a combination of entertainment and writing or reading advise,” said Norman. “It’s great of they’ve been laughing or having fun, but I want them to they walk away with some knowledge of how to improve their writing.”

Throughout the presentation, Norman encouraged the students to use their 5 senses when writing, surprise they’re reader, embrace the power of verbs, and banish their inner evil editor.
