After over 20 years at Byron-Bergen, Technology Education Teacher Jay Wolcott is retiring. In addition to teaching, Mr. Wolcott has coached the softball and swim team, served as Advisor for the Technology Club and Steppin’ Up Club, and served as co-advisor for the 8th grade class.
Wolcott grew up in Oakfield and always appreciated B-B’s rural atmosphere and close-knit community. The thing he will miss most is seeing his friends every day and how B-B staff are willing to help each other both in and out of work. Wolcott would like to thank the district for supporting the Technology program over the past 21 years.
One of Wolcott’s favorite memories was in his first semester as a teacher when he chaperoned an 8th grade trip to Toronto to see “Mama Mia”. It was a great trip and, as a surprise, the students performed a choreographed routine of “Dancing Queen” for their parents at the end of the year complete with Wolcott in a top hat and cane as the dancing king.
In retirement Wolcott plans to spend time with his three grandchildren, teaching them hands-on skills in his new home workshop. He also plans to travel south during the colder months with his son, Ryan. Wolcott’s wife, Jodi, is currently a school nurse through ON BOCES and his daughter, Kelsey, has many plans to keep her father busy. Community involvement will be a big part of Wolcott’s retirement including his continued work for Habitat for Humanity and the Oakfield Historical Society.
Congratulations on your retirement!
