On Tuesday, May 16, 2023 the Byron-Bergen arts community gathered at the High School cafeteria for the Buzzin’ Bistro, an annual celebration of the visual and performing arts. Visual art pieces from students in kindergarten through grade 12 lined the hallways and conference rooms. In the cafeteria, vocal and instrumental musicians performed to a standing-room-only crowd.
Superintendent McGee kicked off the evening by introducing and thanking the visual and performing arts department staff: Sandy Auer, Kevin Bleiler, Melissa Coniglio, Justine Fritz, Bob Lancia, Joe Paris, and Karen Tischer. He then introduced the Board of Education and presented a resolution of appreciation to Kelly and Mike Marsocci, owners of Ralph & Rosie’s Deli. “Be it resolved that the Board of Education sincerely appreciates the hard work of Kelly and Mike and all of the employees at Ralph and Rosie’s for their generosity and hard work in supporting our staff, students, and learning community.”
The evening of vocal music included Senior High School solo performances, the 5th & 6th Grade Chorus, the Singing Silhouettes, and the debut performance of Byron-Bergen’s new a capella group, The Acafellas. Instrumental performances included the 5th & 6th Grade Band, Senior High Jazz Combo, and Senior High Band.
The visual arts displays included a wide range of materials and techniques from drawing and painting to collage as well as three-dimensional pieces including ceramics, textiles, and felted food illusions.
