Student Council takes part in waste-reduction exercise
Mrs. Wahl helps student council members bag up waste for the landfill
On Monday, October 23, Doug Carney, Education Manager from Impact Earth helped the Elementary School Student Council sort cafeteria waste into three groups; landfill, recycle, and compost. According to Carney, 60-70% of waste is food scraps which could be used as animal feed or composted into soil. While sorting, the students discovered whole apples, unopened pre-packaged snacks, and full cartons of milk. “The students had some good conversations today,” said Carney. “Thinking about what we throw away and why we throw it away is an important step toward reducing waste.”
