A message from Superintendent Edwards

Dear Byron-Bergen students and families,

As I have now had a few days to reflect on last week’s events in our nation’s capital, I would like to address our community. While these events may have triggered a range of emotions and reactions, I assure you our campus is a physically and emotionally safe space for all, especially our students.

As we prepare for the return to fully in-person and hybrid learning, the District is committed to maintaining a strong sense of calmness and safety. We will continue to teach and model tolerance, respect and civil discourse. Should conversation on these events arise, we will encourage the importance of respectfully and civilly honoring all perspectives and provide an apolitical, thoughtful and respectful space for dialogue. We will let our students know that they are safe and heard.

In closing, I want to remind everyone of our District’s Core Values:
  • Be respectful,
  • Be accountable,
  • Be responsible, and
  • Be your best self.

These are the tenants we teach our students in the hopes that they inform their character as they become adults. In the coming days and weeks, I urge us all to allow these words to help shape our words and actions.

Best wishes,
Mickey Edwards
Byron-Bergen Central School District Superintendent
