Author Visit

On Tuesday, May 24, juvenile fiction author Leslie Youngblood visited Byron-Bergen Elementary School to discuss how books are created. Before reading an except from her novel “Love Like Sky”, Youngblood described her typical workday which begins at 5 am and includes seven or eight hours of writing. Then she described how the process including drafts, illustrations, and publication can take four or more years.

“Do you like books?”, Youngblood asked the students. “If there were no writers, what would you read? Authors are very important.”

The assembly concluded with a spirited dance party and each student left with a bookmark and a greater understanding of the work behind the books they love.
