Retirement announcement
Gerhardy

Marian Gerhardy retired in March after 25 years with the District and 30 years as a public school teacher. She remained teaching social studies, psychology, government, and economics through the end of the academic year to ensure her students finish with the best education. During her career, in addition to her teaching duties, she coached soccer, basketball, softball, and was integral in launching and coaching the varsity volleyball program.

“This is the best it could have been,” said Gerhardy. “The whole point of teaching is to make a difference. I taught life skills in this classroom but I also taught compassion. I hope it mattered.”

Gerhardy is looking forward to volunteering and traveling in retirement. She plans to visit every state and every national park as well as traveling to Italy and Greece. She is also excited to abandon the alarm clock that awoke her at 5 a.m. every school day for 25 years.

“I appreciate having taught here. I like this District. People really care about their children and it makes a difference.”
