After a three-year hiatus,
The Kota-Reis Cross Country Invitational will take place Saturday, September
15, 2018 at 9 a.m. The event coincides with the ten-year anniversary of the
passing of Matthew Kota and Emily Reis. Both Byron-Bergen runners passed away
from unrelated circumstances in 2008.
“Matthew and Emily ran for Byron-Bergen Cross Country from their seventh grade year through to their senior years,” said their former coach Karie Langer. "They were respected and enthusiastic members of the team and school. It was a pleasure coaching them, and they are truly missed."
“This cross country meet is dedicated to the memory of two of our fellow Bees,” said Athletic Director Richard Hannan. “It is fitting that we pay tribute to these athletes by celebrating the sport that they loved.”
This year’s invitational is comprised of teams from Allegany-Limestone, Avoca, Batavia, Cuba-Rushford, Livonia, and Marcus Whitman. The meet will take place at Byron-Bergen High School at 6917 West Bergen Road, Bergen, NY 14416. It is open to the public.
