Hard work, handshakes, and balloon races

On Friday, November 30, 2018 the students of Byron-Bergen Elementary School gathered in the cafetorium for a special presentation. Principal Meister began the assembly by announcing the November Students of the Month. Congratualtions to all the hard-working students who earned this recognition.

Before the afternoon's special guest speaker was announced, he joined a team of three Byron-Bergen students to balloon race against a team of four faculty members including Principal Meister and Assistant Principal Brown. The teams paired off and had to move across the cafetoruim and back with a balloon sandwiched between their backs. The crowd cheered as the race began with the Byron-Bergen Elementary School House Band (music staff) playing the Survivor classic, Eye of the Tiger. It was a close race but the student/alumni team was victorious.

Finally, special guest speaker, Byron-Bergen graduate and five-time NCAA National Track champion, Nick Guarino took the stage. He shared with the students what it was like to compete at the national level and also about how important it is to work hard to achieve one's goals. The students enjoyed several videos of Mr. Guarino racing and erupted into applause at his victories, and near-victories.
