A message from Superintendent Edwards

I would like to take a moment to respond to an incident that took place yesterday in a neighboring school district. A man, posing as a district employee, arrived at a student’s house and claimed to be there to take the student on a field trip. Thankfully, the caregiver immediately called the police and raised the alarm in the community.

We have spent a lot of time this year reminding everyone to take health precautions, but we need to remember safety precautions as well. Don’t open your door to strangers, even if your parents are home, even if you are a high school student. Never leave your house with a stranger even if they claim to be from the school. No District employee will ever try to remove a student from their home. If anyone claims this, call 911 immediately.

We are a close-knit community so, I know if goes without saying when I remind you, look out for each other.

Stay safe.

Byron-Bergen Central School District Superintendent
