New stop sign at Elementary School

Student safety is always top priority at Byron-Bergen Central Schools. That is why, under the guidance of School Resource Officer Josh Brabon, the Elementary School bus loop has a new stop sign. Cars entering the lower bus loop are now required to stop before crossing the upper bus loop and entering the rear parking lot.

“Previously there was no indication of who had the right of way at the intersection,” said Brabon. “We want to ensure that our school buses can safely pull out onto the bus loop and this new sign will clear the way for them.”

The stop sign also acts as a reminder for vehicle drivers to maintain a safe speed.

“There is a fair stretch of road on the lower bus loop,” said Elementary Principal Brian Meister. “It is possible for vehicles to gain speed on the lower loop and enter the rear parking lot faster than is safe. This new stop sign will ensure safe driving speeds around the school.”

The temporary signs were installed last week and will be replaced with permanent signs.
