Dear Parents and Guardians,
Once Governor Cuomo signed Executive Orders which required schools to educate students virtually, Byron Bergen started working on a plan to implement a one-to-one Chromebook initiative to provide our students with the tools they need to continue learning whether it’s in-person or virtually. This initiative focuses on all 6th through 12th grade students as they are in a hybrid learning model. These students have been issued a Byron Bergen Chromebook to be used for learning in school and taken home each day.

As with all district-owned property issued to students, each family is responsible for the condition of district-owned property that is issued to students. With this in mind, we are pleased to inform you that the School is partnering with SafeWare insurance to offer optional insurance coverage for your student’s district issued Chromebook for the 2020-21 school year. Families who purchase this optional insurance will not be charged repair fees, since all repairs on Chromebooks are covered in full by SafeWare with a zero deductible.

Buying optional Chromebook insurance is highly recommended. Families who take advantage of this opportunity will sign up online directly with SafeWare. The SafeWare portal will be open for enrollment from Friday, September 25, 2020 through Friday, October 16, 2020. 

Payment can only be made with credit or debit card and is $31.50 per Chromebook which covers the entire 2020-21 school year.
Included with this letter is a flyer from SafeWare that includes pricing and detailed information about how you may sign up for Chromebook insurance. Please note that you will need the serial number for your child’s Chromebook when signing up. It is located on the bottom of the Chromebook (see photo example on reverse).

If you do not choose to purchase the optional Chromebook insurance from SafeWare and your district issued Chromebook is damaged due to negligence, your family will be billed at the School’s flat-rate repair fees to protect taxpayer investment in your child’s education. These fees are:
1st Incident $50 2nd Incident $100 3rd Incident $380 (complete replacement)
