Dear Byron-Bergen Learning Community:
As we come to the start of May, I wanted to share with you the accountability procedures that will be in place for students in grades 7-12 for the rest of the 2019-20 school year. This will determine how course credit is awarded.
These accountability procedures were developed with the well-being of our students in mind. They reflect the unprecedented situation the COVID-19 crisis has created but are also designed to preserve the integrity of an academic program our staff and students have invested so much in.
Our team’s core values regarding accountability during school closure and for the remainder of the year will be as follows:
Patience, understanding and empathy will lead the way.
Participation in class is encouraged and is important.
The emphasis for students in all courses will be on learning course material and demonstrating an understanding of the material.
Flexibility for students in meeting deadlines and completing assignments will be a priority.
Students who are consistently completing assignments and showing effort will receive course credit. Students not consistently completing assignments and showing no effort will receive an Incomplete.
Students receiving an I (Incomplete) will not receive course credit but will be provided an opportunity to earn that credit in an alternative setting or during the summer.
Here are more specific details:
There will be no formal Q3 report cards mailed home this year. Any questions regarding a student’s progress should be directed to your student’s teacher first.
GPA will not be affected for the 3rd and 4th quarter due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Therefore only 1st and 2nd quarter grades for the 2019-2020 school will count towards your cumulative GPA. The 3rd and 4th quarter will be based on a Pass/Incomplete system.
3rd Quarter:
Any student who was passing at the 25 week mark (prior to school closure) will receive a Pass (P) for their 3rd quarter grade.
Any student failing the 3rd quarter at the 25 week mark will receive an incomplete (I). Students who were failing but have shown consistency completing assignments during closing will then receive a Pass (P).
The final report card of the year will look like this for students.
MP1 | MP2 | MP3 | MP4 | Final Average |
GPA All Courses | GPA All Courses | Pass/Incomplete All Courses | Pass/Incomplete All Courses | Pass/Fail All Courses |
As always if anyone has any questions please email or call me. Thanks again for your understanding and support.
